Lola (Luo Lan) is a well-known bellydancer on the mainland of China and was the first belly dancer in China. She travelled to Egypt at her own expense to learn this art form. Her first performances on the mainland of China were officially criticized, banned and labelled as pornographic. Lola withstood the heavy pressure, the restraints, and the censorship and continue to persevere promoting her art in China.
Lola's superb dancing posture and movements were so full of the unique female charm that she won universal priase among the people and became famous all over the country despite the enormous amount of persecution that she initially faced.
Her performances in Shenzhen, Changsha, Hainan, Wuhan, and Dalian made Lola an overnight sensation and there were many stories about her in the newspapers, TV, and magazines. Lola has been referred to as the "First Belly Dancer of China" by the "Xin Bao Daily" and "Hong Kong Municipanity Weekly".
