Introduction to Floorwork--AndreaHow many times have you been mesmerized by a dancer doing graceful floor work and wondered how its done? Well here is your chance to learn how!
Floor work is an under utilized part of the art of dance. There are many ways floorwork can be incorporated into choreographies as well as impromptu works. Learning how to do floorwork will enable the dancer to be able to perform this skill and make it look graceful and tasteful. This unique class focuses on the art of floorwork. The class will touch on many aspects of creating this beautiful part of the dance. This an introductory course however all levels of dancers are welcome. Participants should be prepared to get a bit of a work out while learning many different techniques of floor work. Some subjects that will be covered are: methods for getting down to the floor and to get back up with grace, tricks to make it easier on your body, moves that can be done on the floor with or without props, modest positioning for floor work and exercises to increase ease of doing floor work. Good things to bring to this class are: a large towel or yoga mats for doing moves on, knee pads if you have them, (knee/wrist supports if you feel you may need them), candle holders or other items to balance, veils and maybe even a few quarters! No coin or beaded belts should be worn for this class. Remember we will be on the floor! You may get a bit dirty so you may want to bring a change of clothes. |
